OUR PAST IN TRACK, PROTECTING OUR HERITAGE
8291 NAGYVÁZSONY, 19 VARGA ST.

In March 2025, the Foundation acquired ten documents related to Magyaróvár from the years between 1794 and 1849 from a private individual in Budapest. According to the attached expert opinion, the small collection was already in the sights of one of the public collections in 2021, with the expert emphasizing that several items “would have a place in the archives”. The documents provide a valuable addition to understanding the contemporary society of the market town of Magyaróvár and the history of the Magyaróvár estate. Among them, for example, we find two marriage contracts, a will, and a document about a mass foundation. Also interesting from a historical perspective is the document dated August 24, 1809, according to which the market town took out a loan of six thousand forints from one of its citizens to cover the costs of providing for the invading French soldiers. The documents are in good condition, and five documents also have well-preserved seals imprinted in red wax. The Foundation donated the documents to the Győr Archives of the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Archives of the Hungarian National Archives, which will place them in the Mosonmagyaróvár branch archive.
